MEMBERS– The entries are coming in every day and I want to remind you that although the “Deadline” for entries is 1300 03 June it is very possible that, just like the last two Major Tournaments, we will reach our maximum field of 128 players before the Deadline. Once that plateau is reached, all subsequent entries will be placed on the Stand By List.
In the last email I sent I explained the prospective Format. However, after analyzing the entries received so far, the Tournament Committee realized that the format of Four Equally numbered Flights based on Handicap Index is not possible. There would have been far fewer players playing from the White tees ( the A Flight ) than in the other Flights ( Combo and Gold Tees, B, C and D Flights). Fortunately, we have two Golf Genius experts who are able to utilize that remarkable program to go back to past Major tournaments, including past Club Championships, and “War Game” various alternate formats. The Goal, of course, is to make the Club Championship equitable for players of different skill levels and to spread the rather awesome Prize Purse so every player has a fair chance to be competitive over the two day tournament and win some cash !. Here is the NEW Format that while certainly would be arduous to administer manually, using Golf Genius (We have the Premium Level) makes the calculations easy and fair; meeting our two important goals.
1. After reviewing the results of the Club Championships from the previous 3 years it was seen that flighting the field by H.I. in to 4 groups ( A,B,C,D) could leave only a small group of players in the A Flight competing for the three 2025 Club Championships ( Low Gross, Senior Gross, Super Senior Gross). Since the OBVIOUS foundation of a Club Championship is to identify the most skilled golfers having only a relatively few golfers competing for those 3 seemed just not kosher.
2. The field will be divided in to 2 Flights ( A and B) , based on their 03 June Handicap Index. 50% of the field will be in the A Flight, and 50% in the B Flight. The A Flight will play from the White tees only. That means that 1/2 of the field will be competing for the 3 Club Championships. The B Flight will all play from the Gold tees, competing for Low Net prizes.
3. Awards. Each winner of the 3 Club Championships will be the lowest gross in each category, and will win $300.
a. The lowest Gross Score of any player in the A Flight will be the Club Champion.
b. The lowest Gross Score of any player in the A Flight who is over 55 ( as of 10 June) will be the Senior Club Champion.
c. The lowest Gross Score of any player in the A Flight who is over 70 ( as of 10 June) will be the Super Senior Club Champion.
d. The lowest NET SCORE of any player in either the A or B Flight will be the Low Net Club Champion, and will win $250.
e. The remainder of the A & B Flight players) will compete for the Low Net Prize Purse ( The Largest Prize Purse of the tournament at $6200) which will be the Lowest Nets to 20 places, each Flight). The winners of the Low Gross, Senior, and Super Senior Club Championship are not eligible to also win Low Net prize money).
4. Closest to the Flagstick Awards. Each Flight ( A-White, B- Gold) will compete individually for CTFS on all Par Threes; 3 on the South, 4 on the North. Both the White players and the Gold players will get a $50 Pro Shop gift card for each CTFS. There will be two CTFS signs on each Par Three, so make sure you write your name on the correct one for your tee.
5. SKINS. Here is another area where Golf Genius shows its value. Each player may join the OPTIONAL SKINS game for $10 each day. SKINS will be paid out for each Flight individually. Obviously, the amount paid out for each Flight will be determined by the number of players in each Flight who entered. THE SKINS GAME WILL BE A GROSS///NET GAME AND FLIGHTED IN TO FOUR GROUPS ( EACH 25% OF FIELD BASED ON HANDICAP INDEX). THIS WILL CREATE A CLOSER COMPETITION WITH PLAYERS COMPETING AGAINST OTHER PLAYERS OF SIMILAR INDEXES. Running a Four Flight SKINS game is a feature that Golf Genius can easily accomplish, and makes it much more equitable !!! This is the same system that is used for the Tuesday Blitz.
6. All that is followed by the most extensive lunch that we have ever had. Getting it at 1/2 price for this tournament is a real treat.
7. Finally, a HUGE “Thank You” goes to Vice President Bernie Hoyt and Steve Koudelka for getting deep in to Golf Genius to come up with what I am sure will be our best Club Championship ever.
