Members – The final Major Tournament of 2024 is over and from all the comments we Governors received it was a huge success:

1. First of all the Pace of Play was the best we saw all year. 99% of the teams finished in LESS than 4hrs 15 minutes.  It CAN be done !!!!

2. The Format of using the COMBO tees for the B and C players resulted in the mathematically BEST equality between teams in terms of team member’s  handicaps. As we saw from the Results, teams were only separated by a few HUNDRETHS of a point.  That meant that one made ( or missed) putt  meant that a team either won ( lost) up to $60.  It also meant that having the two closest flights, the “B” and “C” players,  play from the same tees eliminated the “Common complaints” that a  “Longer hitting C player or shorter hitting B player” playing from different tees made an “unfair advantage” between teams.

3. Prizes.  We paid out $3280 in Prize money to 14 teams, which was one half the field.  Perhaps the even better news is that unlike past tournaments, no prize money was returned to me because ” XXXX had to leave early”  or “I couldn’t find XXX to give him his money.”  There are NO prize money envelopes that need to be distributed after the tournament. Thank you to the A Players of the winning teams for giving out all your team’s prize money to them.

4. The annual Election for the Board of Governors is coming up in November.  There are 5 open spots that need to be filled this year as the two year term of 5 Governors ends on 31 Dec 2024.  Mine is one of them.  IF you are interested in serving on the Board of Governors, or have any questions,  please email me at johnbepko@cox.net.  The Ballots will go out Nov 5th via email.

5. The  2024 Thanksgiving Turkey Shoot  will start with the Blitz  Tuesday 26 November and end at 1600 Sunday 01 December.  ALL Men’s Club Members are automatically entered at NO cost to them.  The Official Rules will be sent by separate email in early November.  You have as many chances to win as you want.  You do NOT have to play in the Blitz to win Prize Money.

Finally – The NEW GOLF RATES for both Admiral Baker and Sea n” Air golf courses may be picked up at the Pro Shop.  It covers the rates for military, veterans, guests, and regular civilians.  Note that this minor increase of only a very few bucks was mandated by such items as the increasing costs of the things that every golf course ( and just about everything else) must pay:  Electricity, water, required maintenance, etc etc. all have gone up.  As I mentioned at the General Meeting yesterday, the Admiral Baker Men’s Club will NOT be increasing its annual dues of $32 per person, no matter if you are retired military , veteran with a DD-214, or a civilian.  Everyone pays the same annual dues.  The ONLY exception are men on Active Duty who pay only $17 a year.  But, of course, this IS a Military Golf Course after all !!!      The SCGA has raised its annual dues to $41 a year so the combined dues for the Men’s Club and SCGA  is $71.

MEMBERS –  The 2024 Match Play Club Championship is complete !!!

The 2024 MATCH PLAY CLUB CHAMPION IS ROB OSWALT  !!!!!!

There were 23 members who started the Championship and only one was left at the end.  After winning his initial Match he lost his second  Match and had to move to the Lower, or “Losers” Bracket”  ( an oxymoron if there ever was one !).  He fought his way up the Lower Bracket until he won it, then had to play 2024 Club Champion Pat Weishan, winner of the “Winners” Bracket.  If Pat won their Match then Pat would have been the overall Match Play Club Champion.  However Rob won that first Match and then was required to play a SECOND Match against the Upper Bracket Champion ( Pat Weishan)  in order to claim the overall Match Play Club Championship.  Pat got to the Finals by winning his first four Matches. To show you how well Rob played this 6 month tournament, he had to play 8 Matches winning 7 of them , then had to beat Pat twice in order to win it all.

The Prize Money was based on the number of Matches won, with winning a match in the “Winners’ Bracket” paying slightly more than a win in the ‘Losers’ Bracket.”

The Payouts are:
ROB OSWALT            $ 400    1 win in upper bracket; 8 wins in lower bracket
PAT WEISHAN           $ 200    4 wins in upper bracket
JERRY HARRIS         $ 150    3 wins in upper bracket; 1 win in lower bracket
ROY BURCHILL         $ 150     4 wins in lower bracket
CHRIS MARKEY        $ 100   2 wins in upper bracket
JEFF FREEMAN         $ 100   2 wins in upper bracket
STEVE SAWYER         $ 100   2 wins in upper bracket
JEREMY BLAKLEY   $100    3 wins in lower bracket
BRITT WESTMAN    $ 50      1 win in upper bracket
MIKE KANE               $ 50       1 win in upper bracket
JOSH NEIL                 $ 50       1 win in upper bracket
RICH MARRIOTTI   $ 50       1 win in upper bracket
ROBERT OAKES       $ 50       1 win in upper bracket
BOB BATES               $ 50        2 wins in lower bracket
Total money taken in entry fees –   $ 1150
Total money paid out in Prizes –     $ 1600

Another successful Club Championship!!  Thank you for everyone who played.  In 2023 we didn’t have a winner until late November; this year we finished in late September.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO ED ROSENBLOOM ( Winner of Multiple Club Championships  and Senior Club Championships) for expediting the tournament.  He was the reason we finished up before the Fall General Meeting and Scramble.

Prize money will be in the Blitz envelopes on 08 Oct for those who play the Blitz.  I will have the rest to give out at the Oct 22 Fall Scramble.  For those who will not attend either, please email me for details on how to get your prize money.  (  johnbepko@cox.net)

Look forward to the 2025 Match Play Club Championship !!!!!!!!!!!

See you on the course
